Hall Of Fame - Zaheer Khan

Text Box: Full name Zaheer Khan
Born Oct 7, 1978, Shrirampur, Maharashtra
Major teams India, Baroda, Worcestershire, Surrey
Batting style Right-hand
Bowling style Left-arm fast-medium
Text Box: Like Waqar Younis a decade before, left-armed Zaheer Khan yorked his way into the collective consciousness of the cricket world: made his debut against Bangladesh in their inaugural Test at Dhaka in 2000 and was 'honoured' of taking the first Test wicket of Bangladesh of opener Mehrab Hossain. His performances at the Champions Trophy in Kenya in September 2000 announced the arrival of an all-too-rare star in Indian fast-bowling firmament, He might just as easily have come from Pakistan pace stable – well-built, quick and unfazed by a batsmen, reputation, Zaheer could move the ball both ways off the pitch and swing the old ball at a decent pace. After initially struggling to establish himself as a new-ball bowler, he came of age in the West Indies in 2002, when he led the line with great heart. His subsequent display in England and New Zealand – not to mention some eye-catching moments at the 2003 World Cup – established him at the forefront of India's new pace generation, but hamstring injury saw him relegated to bit-part performer while Indian cricket scripted some of its finest moments away in Australia and Pakistan. In a bid to jump the queue of left-armers vying for a national spot, Zaheer put in the hard yards for Worcestershire in 2006, bowling a lot of overs and, in the match against Essex, taking the first nine wicket to fall in the first innings before Darren Gough's flailing bat – and a dropped catch behind the stumps – spoilt his figures and his chances of a rare all-ten
