Text Box: Text Box: A bespectacled and attacking right-handed batsman, leg-break and googly bowler and an outstanding cover-point fielder, Ghorpade toured the West Indies in 1951-52, joining the team as a replacement, and England in 1959, and at home played against New Zealand in 1955-56, Australia in 1956-57 and West Indies in 1958-59, without quite establishing himself. In England he made 833 runs at 23.80 an outing, including 100 runs in six Test innings, which included his Test-highest of 41 in India’s first innings of 168 in the second match at Lord’s. His career-highest was 123 for Baroda against Rajasthan in 1957-58 and best bowling in an innings, 6 for 19 for Indian Universities against Pakistan in 1952-53. He was in the National Selection Committee from 1972-73 until his untimely death in 1977-78 when he was selector.
